Jackson, MS – the “City with Soul”
The Jackson Rhythm and Blues Festival is set for its second year to celebrate its culture and rich musical heritage. This premier two-day music festival will be held August 15-16, 2014 and offers a stellar music mix and line up with over 30 Artists, including Ziggy Marley, FANTASiA, Bell Biv Devoe, Boney James, Bobby Rush, Denise LaSalle, Dorothy Moore, Estelle and Chrisette Michele, guaranteeing a good Jackson, Mississippi time. There are 5 stages, including 3 indoor, air-conditioned venues, transformed into Juke Joints – “Find your Soul!”
The Soul of the festival rests on the rustic grounds of the perfect backdrop of history and culture that lends itself to the music. The Ag & Forestry Museum is a 40 acre complex in the heart of the city, bringing to life Mississippi’s rich agricultural heritage. Trace history, engage with artists to learn first hand about the blues, and follow the winding roads to get a glimpse of the MS Blues Trail, with 13 replica miniature markers found in the city of Jackson, more than any other city on the International Blues Trail, telling our story.
The aroma of deep-fried, fresh Mississippi farm-raised Catfish, succulent ribs, tender pulled pork, beef brisket and an array of other offerings, including premium signature Festival drinks, wine, and ice-cold beer will lead you to the City with Soul Music Stage, where you can relax on the lawn and listen to a mix of Rhythm and Blues, Jazz and Reggae from artists, such as: Ziggy Marley, who can only be upstaged by the memory of his legendary late Father, Bob Marley; FANTASiA, an American Idol winner, who believes life and music can never be separated; and Hip/Hop and R&B great BBD – “Find your Soul!”
Swing by the Downtown Divas Den, the Highway 49 Blues Shack or the Farish Street Stage (three air-conditioned buildings converted into Juke Joints) to experience a time when daylight would find you surrendering to the irresistible melodies and rhythms, heartfelt stories, and intense emotional impact of a city, where so many musicians got their start. You will find living blues legends there, like Bobby Rush, Grammy nominated Dorothy Moore and Denise LaSalle!
The Jammin Jailhouse Acoustic Stage will stir your soul as you discover the grounds, the authentic goods and wares that offer keepsakes so you can always remember the time when you found your Soul!
