Mitch Woods garners two 2018 Blues Awards nominations: Acoustic Album for Friends Along The Way and Instrumentalist – Pinetop Perkins Piano Player.
On May 10, performers, industry representatives and fans from around the world will arrive in Memphis, the home of the blues, to celebrate the best in blues recording and performance from the previous year. The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest honor given to Blues artists. The Blues Foundation will reveal the winners on May 10, 2018 at the Blues Music Awards held in Memphis, TN at the Cook Convention Center.
Released in late September, Friends Along The Way features many special guests that Woods has gotten to know over the course of his 40-year career. Along with Van Morrison and Taj Mahal, who perform with him on three tracks, the album also features Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruthie Foster, Joe Louis Walker, Maria Muldaur, Cyril Neville, Marcia Ball, John Hammond, Kenny Neal, and earlier recordings with James Cotton and John Lee Hooker. The result of these collaborations is an intimate collection of timeless performances.
We have a stunning release featuring some great, high-energy picks all grounded by Woods’ perfectly pitched and pushed piano-work. Little short of a masterpiece, this is without doubt an album to add to any blues-lover’s collection. – Elmore Magazine
“Friends Along The Way is his tour de force, the culmination of his enduring career. Only a musician’s musician could gather together talented friends like the ones on this record, a major achievement that should be a contender for a Grammy nomination.” – Independent Journal
