Blues for Food concert at Lake House

SPRING HILL, FL – It is estimated that nearly 15 percent of Hernando County residents go to bed hungry. And that number doesn’t sit well with Annette Doying. In an attempt to help feed hundreds of local hungry families, Doying and Winding River Promotions are hosting the second annual Blues for Food on Saturday at The Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Drive, Spring Hill, [Florida].

Five high-energy and dynamic Blues acts will grace the stage beginning at noon. In addition, food, drink, arts and craft venders, a muscle car cruise-in, sponsored by the Camero and Firebird Association, and a drum circle will be set up along Hunters Lake.

Blues for Food is an opportunity to bring community members together in a beautiful environment where they can share a passion for music and socialize for a great cause, Doying said. It is a family-friendly event with everyone under 18 admitted free. The cost for adults is $8 in advance or $10 at the gate on the day of the show.

This year’s event will support Holy Cross Food Pantry, which was hand-picked by organizers based o the impact they have on feeding the hungry in this community. Attendees are encouraged to bring a nonparishable food item and an unwrapped toy.

Damon Fowler Blues, a well-received and popular part of the blues touring circuit, will headline the event. In fact, all five bands performing at Blues for Food are ranked very high among blues enthusiasts. They include TC Carr & the Bolts of Blue, featuring Josh Nelms; Lazy Boy & the Rockers, Cruzin for a Bruzin with Eddie Wright, and Frank Robert & the Box Car Tourists. The bands will play from noon to 10 p.m.

In addition, Pine Island Drum Circle and Dance Craft will perform as a bonfire is lit at dusk.

“The Lake House is a hidden gem venue,” Doying said, with 17 beautiful lake side acres. “We wanted to create a true event where everyone walks away thinking, ‘that was a great day’. Let them do something for the community where everything feels right so they’re happy when they’re there.”

It was a compilation of several who made the inaugural year such a success, Doyer said. She hopes it will continue to attract music lovers to the Lake House each year in support of the music, the vendors, and the community while paying it forward and helping feed those who are struggling.

Tickets can be purchased online at bluesforfood.com or by calling Doying at (352) 442-7293.
