Growing up as a kid, we always has BB King music in our home. I never thought, in my wildest dreams, that he would become a close friend. I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him throughout the United States, the UK and Japan. I have great memories. He sent for me to come to his dressing room one night. I didn’t have a clue what he wanted. He told me, “Sit down son. I’ve been listening to your show the last couple of nights and what I heard was great. I like your music that your write, more than the covers songs that you sing and play. So I would suggest you do your own.” He also added, “I don’t normally bring people on my show, but Kenny, you are an exception.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. We went on stage that night and performed like we had been together forever. That’s why I want to show him appreciation and thank him with this song I wrote for him, “I Just Want To Thank You BB King.”
I also want to thank Tony Coleman (drums), Lucky Peterson (organ) and the Nashville B.B. King Club All Star Band which includes Emanuel Cole (bass), Varney Green (trombone), Rod Allen (sax) and Freddie Holt (trumpet), Mark Dreyer (Engineer), Rob Korhonen (Art and Soul Graphics, cover design), Tvester Scott (Business Consultant) and Josi Neal (Administrative Coordinator). Special Thanks to the B.B. King Museum located in Indianola, Mississippi for allowing us to see “Lucille,” B.B. King’s guitar, to complete this Tribute. You all did a great job!
All the best,
Here’s a follow up note from Kenny since B.B. King’s recent hospitalization:
I’m so happy you’re at home and doing well. I finished the song and the video. I remember when I was doing it, you sent a message to me telling me, “to get it right.” I did the best I could, with the little time I had. But I still can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for me over the years. So this is my way of showing my appreciation. Hope you enjoy it! I’m looking forward to sitting down and reminiscing again.
