(PAXICO, KS) – The Paxico Blues Festival will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Saturday, September 15th by hosting thousands of blues lovers throughout a full day of blues on the Main Street stage. Performances by Tas Cru and his band of Tortured Souls, Hurricane Ruth with Scott Holt, Kool-Aide and the Exact Change Band, Torrey Casey and the Southside Hustle, and Heather Newman will keep toes tapping all day long.
“The Paxico Blues Festival brings some of the best blues on the planet to a historic town set right here in the gorgeous Flint Hills,” said Steve “Bud” Hund, co-founder and proprietor of Mill Creek Antiques. “We welcome all to our festival to enjoy dancing, top quality music, local food, and antiquing. It is important for us to keep this festival free because we believe in building a community around preserving a quintessential American art form in the blues while also promoting small town culture and giving back.”

The Paxico Blues Festival has a reputation for highlighting rising stars and past headliners include International Blues Challenge (IBC) champions Trampled Under Foot, “A Night with Janis Joplin” Broadway star Mary Bridget Davies, Blues Music Award (BMA) “Best New Artist” winner Samantha Fish, Louisiana bluesman Josh Garrett, Josh Hoyer from The Voice, and Billboard’s #1 Blues Artist, Anthony Gomes. Festivalgoers are sure to have the opportunity to catch rising stars on their way to the top.
Hund and other members of the Paxico Merchants Association host the free festival annually in the Flint Hills to welcome a crowd from across the country. The festival is very honored to have been awarded a grant from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Charitable Committee for the first time this year.
Fans enjoy top-notch blues in the vibrant setting of the historic downtown, offering live music from morning until night. The concept for the festival ignited with a visit from Kansas City, Kansas, blues impresario Marvine McKeithen to Paxico in 2004. McKeithen and Hund met one another growing up in Paxico and shared a love of blues music. Ever since the initial year the festival has continued to draw increasingly larger crowds, establishing itself as one of the premier events of Wabaunsee County and helping to put Paxico on the map.
“The people keep coming back and bringing more friends,” said Hund. “We strive to provide a world-class experience, and we are honored to open up our community year after year.”
