SAN DIEGO, CA – On a recent visit to San Diego, California I had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Kinsman, founder and producer of the Aim.Loan.com San Diego Blues Festival.

The festival was founded in 2011 to provide great blues music at an affordable price with the hope to raise money to help support the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. The venture has been extremely successful not only providing the best in blues music, but also making a difference helping the community. In the festival’s first four years they have received more than 18 tons of food and raised more than $350,000 to help the Food Bank fight hunger in San Diego County.

The success behind the festival relies on the sponsors, staff, volunteers, fans and Michael Kinsman is responsible for pulling it all together. It is obvious to me that the key to the growth of this event is the respect that Michael has for all of the people involved. When he talks about the festival, his love for bringing blues music to the masses comes across quite clearly. This is a lot of responsibility yet it is not the first festival, nor the first blues music event Michael has produced, as he has been promoting shows for years. In addition, Michael has been a music journalist for over 35 years including writing for numerous music publications and has interviewed more than 500 blues, roots and rock musicians; reviewed more than 300 CDs; and his freelance stories have been published in more than 100 publications and scores of websites through the years. In addition, he is the host on San Diego’s 88.3 Jazz Radio “Every Shade of Blue” Saturday show. Needless to say Michael wears many hats and is highly respected within the Blues industry.

Then fifth annual AimLoan.com San Diego Blues Festival will be held Sept. 26-27 at downtown San Diego’s Embarcadero waterfront. This year Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Booker T. Jones will headline as well as Marcia Ball and Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials, John Mooney, Kim Wilson with Anson Funderburgh.

The event features two stages and 18 acts also including The Paladins, Chris James & Patrick Rynn with special guest Henry Gray, Nathan James & the Rhythm Scratchers and Tomcat Courtney and more.

This festival, in beautiful downtown San Diego, will showcase an incredible amount of music by some of the finest blues talent in the country. You can enjoy it all while helping out a great cause that will benefit the folks in that community. Check out their website to purchase tickets or for more information.
