Tequila Blues Explosion

(IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO, MX) – The 2nd annual Tequila Blues Explosion, a blues and blues-rock festival held in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico, January 10-13, will also feature a taste of jazz-blues fusion and reggae. There will be performers from US, Canada and Mexico, tributes, a harp-off, a drum-off, catamaran cruise, pool parties and more! The festival helps raise funds for the local orphanage.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, with it’s many near perfect beaches and millions of grains of untouched sand, is a perfect location for the Tequila Blues Explosion brand. They are able to provide an amazing vacation experience, “vacaciones increibles,” by combining music and the warmth of the beach. In fact, their mantra is, “Come for the music, stay for the beach.”

This 3-day international festival with many great performers from Canada, USA, and Mexico. Headliners are Jenie Thai, Charlie Jacobson, and Geoff and Chris Dahl-The Blues Brothers Tribute from Canada, Robert George from the USA and Isidore Negrete, Charley Blues, Chris Sanchez, Juan Carlos Cortes, Raices del Blues, Broken Brothers Blues Band, Tangerine Blues-Rock and many more from Mexico.

Opening night, January 10 will be preview performances by all performers and a special full Blues Brothers Tribute show by Geoff and Chris Dahl of Canada and a pool party!

Friday, January 11, is a Tribute to the Legends of Blues and Blues Rock night, with performers paying tribute to the music and performers that have inspired them. It’s also Canada versus Mexico harmonica blowout, friendly as they say in soccer, competition with two great players from each country.

Saturday night’s Finale concert is a night for each performer and group to bring the Best of their Best to the fans. It’s also the night for another friendly competition, this time a drum-off competition between Canada and Mexico again.

Sunday there will be a three-and-a-half hour Blues Kruise 4 Kids on the famous Picante Catamaran with festival performers on board and all-inclusive food and beverage. This may turn out to be the highlight of the Festival.

All events are done in conjunction with a local worthy cause. They continue to support a local orphanage called Talita Cumi. The children of the orphanage visit the Festival and meet the fans and perform one or two songs in choir format. Their hope is to encourage a high-quality music program at the Orphanage.

In addition, they sponsor Mexico’s Got Talent Showcase to encourage local talent development. This year the 9 piece, SANTE youth group ages 9-16, with a Santana vibe, was selected to associate with and jam with festival performers at one of our afternoon pool parties.

Tour packages for this year’s Festival are currently available through Mexico City departing January 10. Get to Mexico City and you can ride with many Festival Performers to Ixtapa. In the future, music and vacation tour packages from Canada and the USA will be available. Online reserved seating tickets are available here.
