Eclectic list of fave Holiday Tunes from John Houston

Posted: December 19, 2013

“ I read your article and saw your request for our favorite holiday tune and well I couldn't reduce it any further than these twelve and here's why....”
- All I Want for Christmas Is to Lay Around and Love On You 3:19 - Chick Willis - Ichiban Blues At Christmas Vol. 1  (sets the tone for an evening full of smooth talking, slow walking, scotch sipping good times)
 - Merry Christmas Baby 4:30 - Bootsy Collins - Christmas Is 4 Ever Christmas
(upbeat funk, blues crossover that lifts any party)
 - Santa Claus in Back in Town - The Brian Setzer Orchestra - Boogie Woogie Christmas
(boogie woogie count? This cat lights up the brass section and has fun with it)
 - Stay a Little Longer, Santa 4:23 - Shemekia Copeland Alligator Records' Genuine Houserockin' Christmas Blues
(well, what's not to like? - Ouch this lady is smokin')
 - Run Run Rudolph 2:28 - Kelly Clarkson - Wrapped In Red Pop
(another crossover, at first I thought Kelly Clarkson performing Run Run Rudolph I don't know about that, but
once I listened to what they produced I did a twin spin - this is hot)
 - Christmas Time Comes But Once a Year 3:22 - Trudy Lynn - Ichiban Blues At Christmas Vol. 1 Blues
(this one stops me in my tracks - after all we're in Houston and we got the Queen, the Diva, the First Lady of
the Blues - oh yes!)
- Please Come Home for Christmas 2:58 - Eagles - The Very Best of Eagles Rock
(Oh ya - these dudes bring it together with their famous, recognizable sound)
- Santa Claus Is Comin' (In a Boogie Woogie Choo Choo Train) 3:56 - The Tractors - Have Yourself a Tractors Christmas Country
(if boogie woogie counts this cut is guaranteed to bring a smile to your guests face at the annual Christmas get together)
 - Hey Santa! 2:47 - Straight No Chaser - Christmas Cheers (Deluxe Version) Holiday
(pure accapella, no instruments and it's way cool, reminds this Santa dude of the '50s and '60s)
- 'Zat You Santa Claus? 2:35 - Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band The Muppets - A Green and Red Christmas Holiday  (this band brings the tune to life using a pretend, animated puppet as the main vocalist - come on who doesn't like this one)-
Cool Yule 2:55 - Louis Armstrong & The Commanders - Number 1's: Christmas Holiday
(this one is time dated but yet it's not if you know what I mean, it's got to be my list of holiday favorites)
- I'm Dressin' Up Like Santa (When I Get Out On Parole) 3:09 - Bob Rivers & Twisted Radio Bob Rivers & Twisted Radio - Twisted Christmas Boxed Set Comedy
(this is so twisted that it works)
