The electrifying
guitar of Matty T Wall extends from his native Australia to the world. With the
release of his latest collection, Sidewinder, Matty has written a new
chapter in the musical narrative, revealing the power of his expanding artistry
through guitar, voice, band and songs.
A young man with an old soul, Matty is connected to music
with a wealth of history as he distills a diversity of genres into his own
blues-influenced soul, jazz and rock signature.
His points of references are wide; he has
studied and played a spectrum of styles including flamenco, swing jazz and
funk, and he attests to a love for âheavier thingsâ in his youth, bands like
Metallica and Pantera among them. But he
remembers how the musicians he admired would honor the blues masters who came
before them. And following the trail of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan
backwards, he was hooked. âI discovered Robert Johnson and he made the hair on
the back of my neck stand up,â he remembers. âI got into the blues and have
never gotten out of it.â
Key to the sound
of Sidewinder is the presence of legendary Grammy-winning
producer-engineer Bob Clearmountain. Famed for his work with the Rolling
Stones, Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie among hundreds of other platinum
artists, it is testimony to Matty T Wallâs musical integrity that Clearmountain
provides the sonic sparkle that reveals Sidewinder in all of
its gritty glory.
“The bones
of Sidewinder are pure electric blues, and the duo of âShake
Itâ and âGoing Downâ pretty much sum up why critics â including myself â are
calling Wall the Eric Clapton of his generation. I havenât heard another
guitarist with as much relaxed composure in the studio in years, maybe even
decades, as Matty T Wall displays in this record, and thatâs a big part of the
reason why I think rock music has been suffering so much in the 2010s. Even in
slower songs like âAinât That the Truth,â itâs Wallâs guitar that steals
away the spotlight from everything and everyone else in the track.” â Loren
Sperry, Music Existence USA
“The blues is
a mighty long road,â ZZ Topâs Billy Gibbons once said. âOr it could be a river,
one that twists and turns and flows into a sea of limitless musical potential.â
Australian singer/guitarist Matty T Wall is the modern embodiment of that
limitless musical potential and one listen to his brand of blazing blues and
itâs hard not to think that this young manâs career will be a mighty long road
of musical glory.” â Stereo Embers (Jul, 2018)
“Sidewinder is
âThe Stuff of Legendâ, rich down and dirty, powerful blues / soul infused
guitar regaled chords with full on fun rock and roll tempos. every track is
memorable and should be on the airwaves globally. Matty T Wall and his
entire band of impressively talented artists have made in Sidewinder what
could be this yearâs International top album.” â Indie Pulse Music
(Jul, 2018)
“Matty T Wall
is playing the types of music he loves while simultaneously being creative with
such a familiar bunch of genres. Itâs all pretty fresh sounding stuff; in that
it doesnât really sound like anything Iâve heard at least in the past couple of
years, but you can still clearly hear where Wall is pulling inspirations from.
Heâs making some really cool music and I can only hope he will get some more
exposure across the pond, in the worldâs biggest blues and blues-rock loving
nation; the U.S.A.” â Blues Rock Review (Jul 16, 2018)
“Aptly titled
by the young ax-wielder, the track is no more and no less than a warning for
those who might try and stand in Wallâs way. Guitar fans: Stick around for
the solo at 2:55. No seriously⌠stick around⌠One last shameless
plug: Letâs support this kid and bring him to the states so he can make
some noise over here! WHOSE LOVECHILD Michael Hutchence meets Gary Clark
Jr⌠OR, Van Halen meets Chuck Berry⌔ â The Ark Of Music (Jul
2018)
“Matty T Wall,
an extraordinary blues-rock guitar player, singer, songwriter. Echoes &
elements of rock from the 60âs, but Wallâs voice hurls it into the 21st
century, his dazzling guitar licks and solos not of this world. Wall is
entitled to a little swaggerâhe has the chops to pull it off. Extraordinary
guitar player. Jazz flavors, soul. Gritty blues-rock, rock & roll, with
outstanding musicianship.” â Martine Ehrenclou, Rock and Blues Muse,
Los Angeles USA, Sept 2018
âWall entertains,
excites and moves the listener with style and class, showing that he is already
right there, at his young age, in the restricted circle of masters of
contemporary music.â â Gio Pilato, BlueBirdReviews.com, UK (Jul 27,
2018)
