The Oct 2019 Legendary Rhythm & Blues Pre-Party features Café R&B, The 44s with Kid Ramos, and San Diego’s Chickenbone Slim. The party benefits the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, which feeds 370,000 people in need every month in the San Diego region. Reunite with blues fans and artists from around the world from 7-11pm at the Wyndham San Diego Bayside (1355 N. Harbor Dr., San Diego, CA  92101), the Blues Cruise’s host hotel! $20 Tickets are available by visiting the Food Bank website.

CAFÉ R&B, featuring vocalist “Roach” and her guitar-slinging husband Byl Carruthers have been wowing audiences throughout America, Canada, and Europe, since they were first discovered in Los Angeles by the likes of Ike Turner and Buddy Guy in the late 90’s… After seeing the band at L.A.’s famed Troubadour nightclub, Ike Turner exclaimed: “I ain’t seen nuthin’ like that since Me and You-Know-Who!”

Buddy Guy heard about the commotion, and invited the band to his Southside Chicago club where, opening for blues legend Otis Rush, the band received a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd. They were soon recognized as a force to be reckoned with, leaving a trail of incendiary performances. They’ve gained a reputation as one of the most exciting live acts in blues and beyond. Encountering Roach and the band’s blisteringly contemporary skills, wrapped around such a deeply reverent passion for the real blues, critics raved…

“Stunned is not a strong enough word to describe what they did to the audience…”
“She is fearless – a torch in a Holy Roller’s body!”

While firmly rooted in the Blues, theirs is a tapestry of blues, jazz, rock, R&B, and every other stitch in the fabric of American music. As blues historian Dick Shurman put it: “No one ever forgets the first time they see CAFE R&B”

THE 44s, led by Johnny Main on vocals guitar with Eric Von Herzen on harmonica, will be joined by Kid Ramos, who has played for some of the finest West Coast bands over the past 35 years, including the Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Harman Band, Mannish Boys and currently as lead guitarist for The Proven Ones.

Kid Ramos says of his experience with The 44s “They play like their life depends on it and you can quote me” …and American Blues News says “One of the Hardest working, hardest playing blues outfits anywhere!”

San Diego’s Chickenbone Slim will kick off the Party at 7:15pm. Slim has been playing his primitive, tough, bare knuckle electric blues style blues for 25+ years.
