(Greenville, MS) – The fifth-annual Mighty Mississippi Music Festival returns to Greenville September 28 – Oct. 1. It all started on this fertile, flat delta land. From these fields and the hands that nurtured them, emerged the style of music known as the blues. History tells us that these Delta blues have influenced almost every genre of music that exists today.

Featured this year are St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Turnpike Troubadours, Shovels & Rope, Chris Knight, Casey James (Season 9, American Idol), Mississippi-based national blues sensation Jarekus Singleton and many more. The Highway 61 Blues Stage will host a world-class list of Delta blues staples including Toronzo Cannon and Cedric Burnside Project.

A new program will kick off the Festival on Thursday evening: The First Annual Mighty Mississippi Music Festival Singer-Songwriters Competition. Singer-songwriters both near & far have submitted their finest work through a YouTube video at MightyMSMusic.com. The competition will culminate in a live showcase featuring the finalists on Thursday night, with one winner advancing to perform on the big stage.

The Mighty Mississippi Music Festival was founded by Delta natives, Steve Azar and Jason Fratesi, and is proud to be a highlight event of the “Bridging the Blues” project.
