Celebrate the 238th Birthday of the City of Los Angeles this Saturday, August 24th

(LOS ANGELES, CA) – On Saturday, August 24, 2019, El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument will celebrate the 238th anniversary of the founding of the City of Los Angeles with birthday cake, historical presentations, live musical entertainment and, for early risers, a nine-mile walk from Mission San Gabriel to El Pueblo Historical Monument. 

Special Presentations at El Pueblo Historical Monument – Gateway to Nature Center (130 Paseo De La Plaza, Los Angeles, CA) include a panel discussion on the history of Los Angeles Jazz and Blues music with legendary jazz artist Barbara Morrison and nationally and internationally recognized educator, blues theorist, and blues promoter, Jerzy “George” Kossek at 11:30am in the Gateway to Nature Center L.A. Then learn how the sounds of nature influences and connects to Jazz and Blues music at 1pm in the Gateway to Nature center. Presented by internationally known blues artist and educator Michael “Hawkeye” Herman.

This event and El Pueblo museums will open to the public at 9am and are free for all to enjoy. You can also follow the historic route that Los Pobladores used when they first set out in September 1781. To walk the route, meet at Mission San Gabriel (428 S. Mission Drive) by 6am. There is no official bike ride for this year’s event.
