February 21, 2023 was the 10th Anniversary of Magic Slim’s passing. John Primer wanted to pay tribute to the great Blues Master and reunite with the living Teardrops, as well as Slim’s son, Shawn Holt, to make a new album celebrating Magic Slim’s life, songs and legacy.
This all went down at Rosa’s Lounge in Chicago on November 26, 2022. Teardrops for Magic Slim is a labor of love to the legendary Magic Slim. John Primer & The Teardrops want to bring him back into focus and shine a light on what they accomplished together.
Magic Slim was a giant in the blues world!
John wants the younger generation to listen to Magic Slim & The Teardrop’s music and to realize where the music came from. Magic Slim was a giant in the blues world!
For 13 years (1981-1994), John was given the opportunity to learn from him, to keep the blues traditions alive, and to carry it forward.
Since Magic Slim was never nominated for a Grammy® Award, this is his chance NOW.

After migrating to Chicago from sharecropper land in Mississippi, he was given the job of band leader for Junior Wells, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, and Magic Slim. He has been recorded on over 90 albums with a who’s who of musicians in the blues world. John has six albums on his own independent record label, Blues House Productions.
