NEW YORK, NY – Friday night, July 24 in the Damrosch Park Bandshell at the Lincoln Center, comes “The Blues Project Revisited.” Toshi Reagon and her band, BIGLovely join forces with Dorrance Dance, a Bessie-winning company known for opening new vistas in tap. This delightful production brings together the tap dancers Michelle Dorrance, Derick K. Grant and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards.
The combination of some of the greatest tap dancers in the world with live music that exploits all sides of the blues, from slow-smoked to full-out rocking, should make for a fine summer evening. And this performance has a little something extra: songs by Ms. Reagon not included when the show played at the Joyce Theater this past spring.
With her bighearted, hold-nothing-back approach, Reagon charms her listeners with righteous tenderness. Reflecting and expanding on the complex history of the blues, the Dorrance Dance company turns simple gestures and musical patterns into graceful marvels without losing the passionate edges of this dynamic dance form.
Showtime is 7:30pm and the event is free and all-ages are welcomed.
