I had the pleasure of sailing on the 2019 October Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise (LRBC) to the Mexican Riviera. I also had the honor of being one of the Jamarama Hosts in the Crow’s Nest where I met many fine players that were either sailing or were artists booked on the ship. One even more poignant memory for me now was having the late Wee Willie Walker show up and perform at my jam. What a sweetheart and amazing, soulful person he was. I will treasure that.
If you have sailed on the LRBC then you know how special it is in general. If you haven’t, then put it on your blues bucket list. You won’t regret it. For me, along with prepping and packing for sightseeing, onboard fun, and the multiple theme nights (a favorite of mine), the cruise excitement accelerates when we get to the dock to check in and maybe get a chance to greet some of the artists plus the many blues friends as they arrive.
The 7-day cruise is jam-packed with so many worthwhile moments that it’s best to have a plan as it is hard to get it all in. But not-to-worry as there’s something for everyone between the concerts and showcases day and night, big and small, workshops, speakers, various jams, cooking demos, shopping, island hopping, eating-meeting-greeting (and eating!). It’s an endless, personal parade of all the blues-related things you love.
Thankful is an understatement for this amazing adventure with the LRBC family…
