September Blues Music Experience

(Clearwater, FL) – On Friday, September 2, 2016, blues returns to Kapok Special Events (923 N. McMullen Booth) in Clearwater, Florida. This time the show features Sue Foley, Sean Chambers, Nitro & Slim and Special Guest Bryan Lee. Doors open at 6:30 PM – Showtime 7:15pm.

Ontario’s Sue Foley spent her childhood in Canada, and started her professional career at age 16. By the time she was 21 was living in Austin, Texas and recording for Antone’s—the blues label associated with the historic nightclub that helped launch the career Stevie Ray Vaughan. Her first release was 1992’s Young Girl Blues when she was 24. Foley has toured steadily, toting her signature pink paisley Telecaster. In 2001, she won the Juno Award for her CD, Love Coming Down and also holds the record for the most Maple Blues Awards (seventeen). She has also garnered 2 B.M.A. nominations from the Blues Foundation, and Trophees de Blues de France. When she’s not recording or performing, Foley is an Assistant Professor of Music. Her specialty is teaching courses related to the roots of American music, creativity, and empowering women musicians. In her spare time, she studies the cello, reads voraciously, and is pursuing her PhD. “Foley is much more than a blues player. She can croon, swing, and rock…Undoubtedly, Foley is one of the finest guitar players on the blues circuit.” (Pop Matters)

Florida born, Sean Chambers toured with the legendary Hubert Sumlin as his guitarist and band leader from 1998-2003. Britain’s own Guitarist magazine named Chambers as “One of the top 50 blues guitarists of the last century.” After his tenure with Sumlin, he performed on his own, and in 2003 was asked to headline the prestigious Maryport Blues Festival. In 2004, shortly after his second CD release, Sean was forced to relocate when his home was flooded out by two of the major hurricanes that hit the state that year. The Sean Chamber Band is comprised of Sean on guitar & vocals, Todd Cook, bass & vocals, Kristopher Schnebelen, of “Trampled Under Foot” fame on drums, and last but not least, Michael Hensley on the mighty Hammond B-3!

Sarasota Slim and Nitro: Considered by many to be the sage of the bay area blues scene, Sarasota Slim, (a.k.a. Gene Hardage) has come to personify the genre’s traditional side with smooth vocals and an eloquent guitar style. However, Slim fans are well aware that the veteran guitarist is fond of mixing things up when he performs, so expect some surprises. He will be joined by his longtime compatriot and blues harp master, Nitro Bozeman.

And if that was not enough, that ole “Braille Blues Daddy” Bryan Lee will be a very special guest!
