2016 Keeping the Blues Alive Awards Nominations Deadline September 30

Keeping the Blues AliveMEMPHIS, TN – The Blues Foundation presents the Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA) Awards to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Blues world.
The KBAs are awarded strictly on the basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals. The KBA may be awarded for the recipient’s work in the past year but most often reflects a lifetime of work. In other words, we don’t view the recipient as the winner of a ‘best of the year’ category. Consistent with this philosophy, the committee generally refrains from awarding the KBA to an individual or organization more than once. Rather, the committee is looking for new deserving recipients. What convinces the committee that your nominee should be selected this year is the persuasive documentation that is submitted.

Nominations are accepted from current members of The Blues Foundation Board of Directors, past KBA recipients and from our affiliated blues societies.  If you are not one of these but have a worthy nominee, reach out to one of these parties to see if they will submit the nomination.

We have two changes for 2016.

  1. Procedurally, we will now only accept digital submissions. Each nominator will be required to submit a single document in support of their nomination. It must be in the form of a PDF. The first page must be summary. If you wish to add additional information, the submission may be nor more than 5 pages in total. The nominator can include links to online materials. If a particular nomination does not lend itself to this kind of submission, please contact Jay to discuss alternatives. This should be easier on both nominators and committee members and cheaper as well due to the elimination of shipping costs which can be high when the nominator uses overnight delivery and when the Foundation mails a box of all nominations to the committee members.
  1. Substantively, we have eliminated the fixed categories for the KBA. Accordingly, we will award a KBA without regard to category. The narrative will set forth the reasons for the selection and would mention things like festival, photography or historical preservation, as appropriate.

The deadline for submitting digital nominations is September 30, 2015.
